HISD Board votes to expand use
of
value-added scores
At its last regular monthly meeting held on February 11, 2010, the HISD School Board unanimously approved Agenda Item H-4. As has been well publicized through the media, internet blogs, and other information sources, this agenda item revises existing board policy in allowing HISD to consider value-added student data (EVAAS) in decisions regarding the non-renewal of a teacher’s term contract.
So what exactly does all this mean for HISD’s teachers?

Thanks to Sandy for CHT Service
On June 30, Sandy McFadyen retired as CHT's office manager. In a farewell letter, she wrote, "I cannot satisfactorily express my gratitude for almost eight years of employment with the greatest organization devoted to serving and assisting the educators in HISD. I want to express my thanks to the CHT Building Reps for making my job a pleasure." Sandy expressed her need to devote more time to her aging parents and a desire to spend more time with her husband of 39 years. She wrote, "It was a difficult decision for me to leave the perfect job working for the best and I am deeply saddened to leave CHT." Thanks to Sandy for her years of dedicated service to CHT members! |
No Dues Increase for Fourth Consecutive Year
CHT membership dues will remain at $99 for 2009-2010. Although many of our operating expenses continue to increase, CHT has made an effort to control costs wherever possible. Most importantly, our individual liability insurance rates have remained the same for the past five years, a testament to the professionalism of our membership. While other organizations try to justify their high costs by saying, “You get what you pay for,” CHT provides a valuable service at a low cost and asks, “Why pay more?” |
