CHT Current Issues
No Change to the Teacher Salary Schedule

The HISD budget proposed by the superintendent and approved by the board on June 24 included $7 million to cover the step increase that was a part of the teacher pay raise provided by the state in the last legislative session. There were no other increases for teachers and no increases for non-instructional employees or administrators. While more than half of HISD teachers will receive the step increase, about 5,800 or 45% of teachers will see no salary increase for 2010-2011. The budget also includes an additional $10 million for health care to help offset possible rate increases beginning in January 2011.

HISD Board expands use of value-added scores
At its regular monthly meeting held on February 11, 2010, the HISD School Board unanimously approved Agenda Item H-4 which revised board policy to allow HISD to consider value-added student data (EVAAS) in decisions regarding the non-renewal of a teacher’s term contract.
