CHT presents an honorary lifetime membership to retiring teachers at the annual spring banquet. A retired teacher may attend general meetings for no charge, and serve as a CHT committee member, board member, or officer. Retired teachers may also request to be put on CHT's e-mail mailing list. However, only dues-paying CHT members are covered by our professional liability insurance policy. CHT advises retired teachers who return as substitutes to pay member dues in order to keep their liability insurance in effect. With the large number of teachers who now retire and return to the classroom either part-time or full-time, it is important to remember that you must pay regular member dues to be covered by our professional liability insurance. Finally, do not assume that you are currently paying dues if you were on payroll deduction before retirement—you may have been dropped from the payroll deduction list when you retired from HISD.
